There've been some exciting goings-on in the noodle mines. A new machine has been created that allows the miners to actually remove salt from the Pot Noodle snacks.
Over the last few years there has been growing concern amongst the public about the levels of salt in their food. And as good honest workers, the miners felt they had a responsibility to address these concerns.
'...we've successfully removed about half the salt.' Gary, noodle miner.
In 2003, they tried a small reduction of 8% of salt across the range. The consumers accepted a less salty product, and so began the big reductions. Pot Noodle snacks now contain a whopping 50% less salt across the range since 2005. And to keep Pot Noodle fans happy, they've carefully managed to retain the flavour.
'It's complicated, but we take the noodle in its raw state, and feed it through this machine, and as the handle turns, just the salt gets separated, you see. Tastes the same, mind.' Gary, noodle miner.
